Projects may set goals for acoustic comfort, occupational-noise control, indoor air quality and environmental impact. Each goal needs its own evidence. A product should not be called healthy or sustainable on the strength of one acoustic value or one material label.
Define the acoustic objective
Decide whether the issue is hazardous exposure, distraction, speech privacy, reverberation or sound transfer. Use the measurement and design method suited to that question. Product tests should identify the model, configuration and standard.
For furniture ensembles and enclosures, ISO 23351-1 specifies a laboratory method for measuring speech level reduction. It does not by itself establish occupational-noise compliance, indoor acoustic comfort or a medical benefit.
Review material and emission evidence
Ask what product or component a certificate covers, who issued it and whether it is current. Check optional finishes and adhesives. Product emissions, recycled content, responsible sourcing and fire performance are separate claims.
Where a material is described as lower-emitting, durable or environmentally preferable, request product-specific evidence covering the exact component, finish and configuration. A material name alone does not establish health or environmental performance.
Examine life-cycle claims
Durability, repair, transport, energy use, replacement and end-of-life routes influence environmental impact. A life-cycle claim should state its system boundary, data source and comparison basis.
Keep health language precise
Occupational hearing risks require exposure assessment. Comfort or reduced distraction should be described as workplace outcomes and evaluated in the real space. Avoid medical claims unless the evidence and regulatory review support them.
Procurement record
Keep drawings, ordered configuration, reports, certificates, versions and approvals together. This makes later marketing statements traceable to the product actually supplied.
